Best Use of an iPhone ever

This combines every feature you could want in a track app using the iPhones sensors and cameras- beautiful video too

Best timing app on iPhone

Best timing app on iPhone. Took a little time to read the online manual and forum will help you saving time setting things up at the track. This is the best timing app for iPhone hands down.

superb

ready to go tools. what i am mising is easy way of lap 2 lap on the computer comparison. i would like to compare several laps on the graph not only best & current

Please fix video

Harry, when i try to overlay my video the app freezes and then says the data is corrupted

Makes it so easy

I beta tested this version for Harry. Integrating the OBD data makes doing lap videos with overlays a touch of the button. I use 2 blue tooth devices (GPS and Go-Point) and even use GoPro Hero2 video. Integrating with GoPro video is as simple as syncing on the end of the lap, and HLT does the rest. GForce maps tell me where I can go faster, and where I"m inconsistent on my lap segments Resident maps have worked at every track Ive been to in Ontario, Canada, and only adjusting for stop/go for the timing trigger is the only thing I need to do Others have reported issues in making the automatic triggers work and video recording. This version makes it easier to setup, so you should have less issues. Once you get used to it, and experiment with setup off the track, its a breeze. Highly recommend. Integrates a lot of what I want. Now if only Harry will create a data logger app so I can view engine performance on the track with GPS markers, life would be grand!

Frequently at the track!

I love this app. but the last update messed everything up! Please fix so I can keep using it every time I go to the track! Please fix update!!!

Superb Dash Camera and more

I mainly use it as a dash camera on the street and it is fantastic at that. It has a focus lock feature to save battery life, and video recording can be starting with just a couple taps from the start-up screen. Video overlay processing takes some time and is all on the device. Processing cannot be done in the background and the device cannot sleep while processing, and it can take a bit of time to complete. Processed videos end up in your iPhone Camera Roll so they can transfer via iCloud or iTunes syncing. Also has some useful gauges, but I wouldnt mind seeing additional realtime gauges, especially instant fuel consumption. Some customization of the gauge display screen would be nice as well. These would just be cherries on top, overall this is an amazing value even for my limited use of its functions. A quality application.

Works great!

Yesterday was the first opportunity I had to really try this app at a Track Day. The download of the specific track worked perfectly. The video-capture and overlay worked perfectly. The GPS timing/accuracy was close to that of the readings from a $300 professional Lap Timer that was run simultaneously. I particularly like the video and speed, Gs/angles, track-progress, split timers. Wow, its great. One of the more expensive apps Ive downloaded, but well worth it! Notes: Used on an iPhone 5. The windshield bracket I chose is not heavy-duty enough to prevent rattling -- will need something better next time.

Great app

I have recently started tracking my Corvette and needed a way to see if I was improving. I asked around and found out that several people were using this app. I purchased it and have loved it since.

Get it!

Simple and elegant interface that allows non-geeks like me to see and do better on-track! Worth every penny (and more!), and such a treat for track dogs like us!

Incredible app! Worth 10x the price!

I have used Harrys Laptimer since back in the Palm OS days. It has been amazing to watch this app go from the most basic "Laptimer" to a comprehensive timer, data logger and video capture and overlay program. Just the basic timer functionality alone is worth the price of the app. If you are doing DEs or track days, this app is a must have! Some people have reported issues, but I suspect user error and marginal equipment are the main issues. For example, the app wont work from the pocket of your jeans. The author strongly recommends using an external gps to improve the signal quality. Harry has bent over backwards to help me in the past and is very responsive. Also, if you are having issues at the track, seek out another user. It is highly likely that there is a Harry Fan that will be willing to help!

I envy those of you who get to utilize this program as intended

I never write reviews for apps, but Im astonished at how much thought and care Harry has put into this. I dont even race, but after poking around GPS Buddy and reading the LapTimer documentation, I bought it out of sheer respect for how well implemented everything is. The support appears to be direct, personal, and helpful from Harry himself. Super impressed in general.

Outstanding App

If you track your car this is the app you must have for laptimes, video recording and other stats.

Best Data Acquisition for iPhone

I have been using this app for several versions over the last two years and love it! At first I got the app because I didnt want to spend $1000s on commercial systems that pros use, Im just an amateur HPDE driver tracking my Vette. So HLT was the next best thing, and it did have some bugs in the beginning (Harry was always very responsive to questions), but the last couple versions have been terrific especially with all the new features that keep being added. The recent version and the next release provide features found on the commercial pro systems for a fraction of the cost. I highly recommend HLT!

A must have app for those getting into MotorSports!

A great easy to use app for those getting into MotorSports! Very accurate when used with an external GPS!!!

Beats $500 data logger setups

Finally got to test this out last weekend and I keep finding more and more cool things that it does. The video feature with data overlay has to be the best part, but I also like the Google Earth export as well. We put it up against the transponder times and found that with the UltiMate GPS module added on (didnt test without it), it was within 0.01 to 0.004 seconds each lap (transponder measures to the thousandth, while Harrys is to the hundredth so some rounding may be occurring). We also compared the output to expensive data/video logger setups and it was either just as good or better. The only thing we didnt have (though it looks like Harrys supports it) is OBD data from the car. But really, somebody just needs to make a Bluetooth sensor for the accelerator/brake that Harry can work in. The only reason I didnt give this five stars is due to the UI. Its a bit clunky and hard to move around some times (Harald, Im a designer and would be happy to consult with you on this). My only other gripe (not even enough to factor into the 4 vs 5 star decision) is that it sometimes had trouble marking a new lap if I pulled into the hot pits, not crossing start/finish. Not sure if this was due to a GPS mapping issue (at Auto Club Speedway) or an issue with the software. Id also like to see it split out sessions better (any laps that are not back-to-back). Overall, if you race, or do track days, this app is well worth the $20. At the minimum, invest in a serious iPhone mount (I got the RAM suction mount - $30, and it worked great). Id also suggest the UltiMate GPS module ($100) if you want better accuracy.

Great App … eventually?

Looks to have great potential. Tried it out, but with mixed results. Got another track weekend coming up, hoping for a better outcome.

Great product! Need a brain to use it..

The basics work super easy and its fantastic. The custom stuff and more advanced features come with a learning curve. The developer is very active on the forums as are other users which is another bonus! Ive used it with success on 3 tracks and just created my first custom/road set to test out.

Great for weekend racing - test locally first!

This is a great app - Ive used it for over a year and it gets better and better with every [free!] upgrade (v17 due any day). Ive recommended it to a dozen others who also love it. One watchout - get to know the app BEFORE any real road/track event. It does take some simple experimenting to get it right. Thats not to say there is something wrong with it...just like anything else, learn how it works. The best part is you can easily and automatically "make a track" anywhere (parking lot, the block around your house) to check out how it auto starts/stops, overlays, etc... And use that opportunity to try different mounting positions in your car and how it works. I have a windshield mount and use the front camera, and a rollbar mound but use the "reverse" camera in that view (so I can press the buttons). It is not 100% perfect (nothing is), but for just $20 versus $$$hundreds...how can you compare?!?

Amazing App with Equally Good Support

I am indeed an admitted Petrolhead, and as such, was looking for a way to get data displayed on my GoPro videos of track days. I cannot believe there is any app better than this one. The richness of this app continues to surprise me. Tying devices together like an OBD II plug, external GPS, GoPro Hero3 camera, is no easy feat. Granted some of the features are a bit difficult to find, but they are there. I feared when rendering an overlay onto a 2GB GoPro video on my iPhone 5, but the stability of the app is top notch. Great job, Harry! Im now a big fan and will evangelize this app to my Petrolhead friends!!
